There
are Latin-English Booklet Missals available in the pews of the
Chapel. These make it possible to easily follow the Mass,
while providing in English the Latin prayers used throughout the
Mass. A High Mass is distinguished from a Low Mass in that
the High Mass is sung, and -- in the case of a Solemn High Mass --
will also include the participation of deacons and sub-deacons at
the altar along with the Priest who offers the Mass.
The rubrics for High Mass are slightly different than those
for Low Mass.
The indications for High Mass for the faithful who assist at
the Mass are provided in the right-hand margins of the Mass Booklet
alongside the English. These indications guide the faithful as
to when to sit and stand during the Mass, and will point out when
this is different from Low Mass.
During High Mass, the faithful are permitted to join with the
choir in the sung responses (Dominus Vobiscum: Et Cum Spiritu Tuo…)
as well as during the Preface of the Mass, and for such parts of the
Mass which are sung by the choir; such as, the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo,
Sanctus and Agnus Dei. Normally, for the Kyrie and Gloria, the
chant is alternated with the choir.
These responses are not to be made during Low Mass, which is
not a sung Mass.
During Low Mass the responses to the Priest are made
exclusively by the acolytes who serve the Mass, while the faithful
assist in prayerful silence. |
